PD Day STEAM Challenge!

Service Description

Friday, November 20, 2026 | 9:00 a.m. – 3:20 p.m. | Grades 1–6 Join us at Highland Roots Learning Academy for a full day of hands-on learning, creativity and engineering challenges inspired by Haliburton's Santa Claus Parade, taking place that very same day! What is STEAM? STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. Our PD Day STEAM Challenge brings these five areas of learning together through an exciting, hands-on project that encourages creativity, collaboration and problem-solving. What will students be doing? Students will work in mixed-age teams to design, build and decorate miniature Santa Claus Parade floats. They'll explore wheels, axles, battery-powered motors and electrical circuits as they construct, test and improve their creations. The challenge: Can you design and build a miniature Santa Claus Parade float that moves and lights up? Throughout the day, students will develop problem-solving, teamwork, engineering and creative thinking skills as they bring their designs to life.
